This is not a plug-in hybrid or a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. ![]() Energy comes from an onboard battery (it’s a BEV). The innovation comes in the form of four in-hub electric motors. The Endurance design includes a traditional body-on-frame design with a fairly standard suspension system. What does this mean? Will the Endurance truck use GM’s previous generation full-size truck chassis and body? Is this also a look at what could be a Silverado or GMC Sierra electric prototype? Let’s look at the details. The test vehicle appears to be a camouflaged crew cab Chevy Silverado 1500 from a couple of years ago. The deliveries for Lordstown's Endurance pickup are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020, which means it might just beat Tesla's Cybertruck to the market by a couple of months.Upcoming EV truck company, Lordstown, publish a short video clip today of their “alpha” (early prototype) Endurance truck doing some testing at a proving grounds. So far, the company has only showcased the Endurance in a dual-cab, 5-seat layout. In a true electric vehicle tradition, the Endurance will also receive over-the-air updates. ![]() Lordstown's pickup will get a top speed of 80 mph. Lordstown claims the battery pack can be charged up to 95% capacity in under 10 hours with a 7 kW charging rate. The Endurance pickup will come with DC rapid charging capability. The Endurance will also get 6,000 lbs of towing capacity. ![]() For comparison, the Tesla Model X P100D is rated at 311 kW. The in-wheel hub quad-motor setup in the Endurance electric pickup truck will churn out 600 horsepower or 440 kW of power output. This will be the first time such a setup is seen on a production electric vehicle, as other manufacturers stick to using the traditional dual-motor (one on each axle) or a quad-motor setup (two on each axle). The Endurance pickup truck will be offered with an all-wheel-drive setup thanks to its four in-wheel hub electric motors. It's likely that more expensive models will join the pickup truck's lineup later in its production cycle. The Lordstown Endurance pickup truck will also be eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit that will further discount the price to $45,000. The price of the base model starts at $52,500. The company has not yet clarified whether the 200-mile range will be offered on the entry-level models or the top of the range variants. The Endurance pickup features a battery-only powertrain with a dedicated EV architecture which was built exclusively to underpin the electric truck. The American electric vehicle manufacturer aims to build 500,000 electric vehicles each year in Ohio.Īccording to Lordstown, the Endurance pickup will be built as a bespoke offering and will get a minimum range of 200 miles. Now that Lordstown Motors secured a dedicated production facility, the company has released official specs of its upcoming Endurance electric pickup truck, the brand's first offering. The new American electric vehicle startup is based out of Lordstown, Ohio and recently secured a $40 million investment from General Motors, which the company used to purchase GM's former Lordstown assembly plant. The company's fully-electric Endurance pickup will soon join the likes of the Rivian R1T and Tesla's Cybertruck, among others. Lordstown Motors is the latest entry in the electric pickup truck segment. ![]()
